Why It’s a Good Time to Start Doing Morning Workouts

As the sun sets earlier, it becomes more difficult to fit in a workout at the end of the day, especially if you enjoy outdoor exercise. Even if you typically work out indoors, you may find that your motivation to exercise takes a hit after the sun goes down. That’s why it’s the perfect time of year to switch up your exercise routine to get in a sweat sesh in the morning, rather than waiting for the end of the day.

These are just a few of the benefits of morning workouts:

  1. You’re more likely to get it done. When your workout is the first thing on your to-do list, there’s a higher chance that you’ll fit it in since you’ll have fewer distractions or reasons for changing your plans. People who work out in the morning tend to stick to their routine more consistently.
  2. You’ll start your day with a clearer head. Exercise has been shown to promote mental clarity and may improve attention span. So when you work out in the morning, you’ll reap these benefits throughout the day.
  3. You’ll feel more energized. You may think that exercising in the morning will leave you feeling tired, but it has the opposite effect. Lacing up your sneakers and working out first thing in the morning typically makes you feel energized, rejuvenated and ready to tackle your day.
  4. You’ll be in a better mood. Exercise can reduce stress and improve mood. This is a benefit of working out no matter when you do it. But if you exercise in the morning, you’re more likely to benefit from the mental health boost throughout the rest of your day.
  5. You’re more likely to follow healthy habits. By starting your day feeling accomplished and like you did something good for your health, you’re more likely to build on that momentum and make better choices later in the day, such as eating healthier foods.
  6. You may boost your metabolism. Although exercise boosts metabolism no matter when you do it, working out in the morning ensures you get it done and helps you start your day with a metabolism that’s firing on all cylinders.
  7. You may sleep better. In general, exercise has been shown to improve sleep. But if you work out too close to bedtime, it can make it harder to fall asleep. By exercising earlier in the day, you’ll get the benefits of enhanced sleep without disturbing your sleep patterns due to a workout that runs too late.

If you’re looking for an effective way to breathe new life into your workout routine, consider switching to morning workouts. There are many benefits to checking exercise off your to-do list early in the day!
