Deborah Names Dr. Cara Garofalo as Pediatric Cardiology Chair

Deborah Heart and Lung Center President and CEO Joseph Chirichella has named Cara Garofalo, MD, as Chair, Pediatric Cardiology. The appointment is effective immediately.

Dr. Garofalo of Philadelphia was most recently employed by St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, where she was recognized by Philadelphia Magazine as a 2018 Top Doctor.

Dr. Garofalo received her undergraduate degree from Princeton University, and her Medical Degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She completed her Pediatric Residency at the State University of New York at Buffalo/the Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, and completed a combined Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship at New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, Columbia University.

Licensed in New Jersey, she is Board Certified in Pediatrics, Pediatric Cardiology, and Pediatric Critical Care. Dr. Garofalo has been published in numerous professional journals including Circulation and Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. She has special interest in ventricular mechanics in children with complex congenital heart disease.

Deborah Heart and Lung Center is an 89-bed teaching hospital that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of congenital and acquired heart, lung, and vascular disease in adults, and provides outpatient
cardiology services for children.

Dr. Garofalo will lead a team of specialists with expertise in fetal cardiology, care for adults with congenital heart disease, and heart rhythm abnormalities in children, as well as cardiology evaluations
and follow-up for children and teens at risk for cardiovascular disease due to family history, or due to underlying conditions such as obesity, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia.

Dr. Garofalo relishes city life in Philadelphia, and, in her spare time, enjoys exploring the city with her young son.
