There are two types of repair for abdominal aortic aneurysms: open surgery and endovascular repair using a stent graft.
In contrast to open surgical repair of an AAA, EVAR involves placing an expandable stent graft within the aorta to exclude the aneurysm without surgery. Very small incisions are made to access the femoral arteries. Vascular sheaths are then introduced into the femoral arteries through which catheters and the endograft are passed. In the past five years, EVAR has accounted for the majority of AAA repairs in the country.
Patients with EVAR will enjoy a much quicker procedure recovery time and return to normal activities than those who undergo traditional surgical aneurysm repair.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair is a surgical procedure that treats a bulge or weakness in the aorta, the main artery that supplies blood to the lower body. The goal of the procedure is to prevent the aneurysm from rupturing, which can cause life-threatening internal bleeding.
