Regionally-Recognized Care, Nationally-Recognized Capabilities

HybridIn 1958, Deborah Heart and Lung Center was the first hospital in New Jersey to perform open heart surgery. Our team of elite cardiothoracic surgeons actually performed two surgeries that day – on both an adult and a child. Today, our success is counted not only by the years of care we’ve delivered to the community but by our surgical outcomes, successes, and the advancements we’ve made in treating cardiovascular disease.

Deborah is rated in the top 10% of hospitals in the country for cardiac surgery (CABG) and in the top 7% of hospitals in the country for aortic valve replacement (AVR) surgery. Research indicates that patients actually have a greater chance of surviving a cardiac event if treated at a hospital that performs a higher volume of procedures.

The heart surgery program at Deborah is one of only 18 hospitals in the state performing open heart surgery. We perform over 500 open heart procedures each year. Our cardiothoracic surgeons specialize in everything from minimally invasive procedures to complex surgeries – and have a gift for knowing which option will lead to the best outcomes for each patient’s unique needs.

Our patients benefit not only from the expertise and experience of our award-winning physicians but also from the very best perioperative care leading to low operative mortality, myocardial protection, and blood conservation at every step.
